Australian Camp is a picturesque hiking destination located in the Annapurna region of Nepal, offering stunning views of the Himalayas. The hike typically starts from the lakeside town of Pokhara and involves a scenic drive to Kande, the starting point of the trek. From Kande, the trail ascends gradually through lush forests and terraced farmlands, passing through charming villages such as Dhampus. Dhampus village is renowned for its traditional Gurung culture and architecture, offering an authentic glimpse into rural Nepalese life. As hikers continue along the trail, they gradually ascend to Australian Camp, which sits atop a ridge at an altitude of around 2,100 meters (6,890 feet). The camp offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, including the Annapurna range, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Dhaulagiri, and Lamjung Himal. The mountain views from Australian Camp are truly spectacular, with the snow-capped peaks towering majestically against the clear blue sky. The iconic Machhapuchhre, with its distinctive fishtail shape, dominates the skyline and is particularly stunning during sunrise and sunset. Hikers can spend time at Australian Camp, soaking in the natural beauty, enjoying a picnic lunch, and taking plenty of photographs. The campsite itself is a peaceful retreat, surrounded by rhododendron forests and offering a serene ambience away from the hustle and bustle of city life. After soaking in the views and refreshing themselves, hikers can either return to Pokhara via the same trail or continue on to explore other nearby attractions, such as the beautiful village of Dhampus or even trekking further into the Annapurna Sanctuary for a more extended adventure.
